Geography Curriculum Map

Year 7

In Geography during Term 1 & 2 Year 7 students improve their geographical skills, and discover the physical and human landscape of the UK. During Term 3 & 4 Year 7 explore water, rivers and flooding, and discover the human and physical Geography of Europe. Throughout Term 5 & 6 Year 8 investigate the different ecosystems around the globe and learn how to improve their fieldwork and research skills. Year 7 will study case studies, outlining key events in the Earth’s history, they will address the interaction between the physical and human world and how this can sometimes lead to conflict, while developing skills in interpreting geographical data, in map reading and in identifying and explaining geographical patterns and processes. Through this they will gain a deeper understanding of human and physical Geography, and the impact we have on the world around us.

Year 7 Curriculum Overview - Geography

Year 8

During term 1 & 2 Year 8 students discover the human and physical Geography of Asia, and how plate tectonics influence volcanoes and earthquakes. During Term 3 & 4 Year 8 learn how globalisation has impacted the world around us, and explore the world of Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Throughout Term 5 & 6 Year 8 investigate the different weather experienced across the UK and develop their understanding of sustainability locally and globally. Year 8 will study case studies, outlining key events in the Earth’s history, they will address the interaction between the physical and human world and how this can sometimes lead to conflict, while developing skills in interpreting geographical data, in map reading and in identifying and explaining geographical patterns and processes. Through this they will gain a deeper understanding of human and physical Geography, and the impact we have on the world around us.

Year 8 Curriculum Overview - Geography

Year 9 GCSE

During Term 1 & 2 Year 9 students discover the human and physical Geography of Africa, and how the world around us is impacted by looking at climate change, resource scarcity and the effects of both. During Term 3 & 4 Year 9 discover the physical and human Geography of South America, and explore the world of cold environments. Throughout Term 5 & 6 Year 9 investigate the landscapes and their physical processes, learning about coasts and rivers. Year 9 will study case studies, outlining key events in the Earth’s history, they will address the interaction between the physical and human world and how this can sometimes lead to conflict, while developing skills in interpreting geographical data, in map reading and in identifying and explaining geographical patterns and processes. Through this they will gain a deeper understanding of human and physical Geography, and the impact we have on the world around us.

Year 10 GCSE

Year 10 students will continue their GCSEs during Autumn Term 1 by studying Theme 5 Weather, Climate and Ecosystems, using case studies to investigate patterns across the world. In Autumn Term 2 they will begin Theme 6 Development and Resource Issues, exploring the diverse range of issues that we face locally, and the people all around the world face globally. In Spring Term 1 we will continue studying Theme 6 Development and Resource Issues, developing a deeper understanding of Geography and directly linking human and physical Geography. In Spring Term 2 Year 10 will complete Theme 7: Social Development, using prior knowledge built from the past two years to learn how development is measured, and explore contemporary development issues. In the Summer Term 1 & 2 we will begin to refine our practical fieldwork skills, allowing Year 10 students to further develop their skills in interpreting geographical data, in map reading and in identifying and explaining geographical patterns and processes.

In Summer Term 1 & 2 we will complete exam preparations.
