Students Race for Life for Cancer Research

Race for LifeThis term, students in years 7 and 8 have taken on a challenge to run a Race for Life event, not only to improve their fitness levels, but to raise money for the amazing Cancer Research UK charity.

The two year groups worked their way through a new activity called ‘Desk to 5k,’ where they have built up stamina to run a whole 5k. The Race for Life event at the end of this term, was the finale, their end goal.

We originally set a target; if every student could gain £5 of sponsorship, we could raise £1350. We are exceptionally proud to say that we have exceeded this target and, at time of writing, have reached a massive £2,985! This is something to really be proud of, thank you to everyone that has sponsored or donated.

Mr Hayden, PE Teacher said, “The Year 7 and 8 students have put in a fantastic amount of effort this term; running in their lessons and for home learning. All their hard work has paid off and their fitness levels have improved after a tough year of lockdowns and isolations. Raising over £2000 is such a great achievement for them all too, as we all know Cancer Research is a fantastic charity and means so much to alot of people. I am so proud of all the students, and their efforts will inspire both Year 9 and 10 students who will be completing the activity next term.”

Today’s teenagers are the generation that could see groundbreaking treatments and cures for cancer in their lifetime. They are the young warriors who could be the researchers and lifesavers of tomorrow. By taking part in Race for Life and uniting together against cancer, they have done something really special.
