Headteacher's Weekly Update
20th September 2024
Dear Families,
This week I held my first working lunch with the Head Prefects. We had a productive discussion about how we plan to achieve the objectives set by the Prefect team for this year, breaking the tasks down into manageable steps. Their enthusiasm and commitment to enhancing school life is inspiring, and I am confident this year will be a success for both them and the school.
Many of our Personal Development Clubs began this week, with the official launch of PDT being next week. I encourage all students to sign up for at least one club to enhance their school experiences, and where possible, try something new! It has been fantastic to see High School Musical rehearsals in full swing, and I am thrilled to see so many of our Year 7 students getting involved. Tickets for the show are now on sale, don't forget to buy yours here!
I had the pleasure of showing Mr Martin from the GLF Foundation around the school this week, with a focus on his visit to the new Hair and Beauty provision, which we launched this term thanks to funding from the Foundation. Mr Martin was impressed by our well-equipped salon, and pleased to see some of the work that students have been doing in the nail bar on display. We are delighted to be able to offer this provision to our students, and in the future we hope to see more Aureus students benefiting from the valuable opportunities that the GLF Foundation provides, both via direct funding to schools and grants made to support students' personal endeavours. A reminder that applications to the GLF Opportunity Fund, which provides funding of up to £500 for extra-curricular activities for students, are open until 27th September. Click here for more information and to access the application form.
Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to the students and their families for how they have returned to school this academic year. Uniform is looking exemplary for the vast majority of our students, which shows us the sense of belonging our students have. Equally, the vast majority of our students are attending school on time and fully equipped for the day ahead. Unfortunately, a small minority are arriving at school late. This has an impact on how they start their day and can add up to a significant loss of learning. A polite reminder: students should be in their coaching rooms by 8:30am for a prompt start when the bell rings. We appreciate your support in ensuring students arrive at school on time.
Kind regards,
Kirsty Rogers
