Options Process 2025
At Aureus, the options process is an exciting milestone for Year 9 students as they take the first steps in shaping their future. This is when students have the opportunity to choose some of the subjects they will study over the next two years as part of their Key Stage 4 (KS4) curriculum. With a wide range of courses available, the process is designed to help students explore their interests, build on their strengths, and work towards their ambitions. Supported by staff, families and a tailored guidance program, students will make informed decisions to create a personalised curriculum that prepares them for success in GCSEs and beyond.
The curriculum at KS4 consists of a mixture of Essential Learning and Additional Learning. Essential Learning is the core curriculum. This is a set of subjects and skills that are statutory for all children aged 14-16. This includes: Maths, English Language, English Literature, Science, Global Citizenship and PE.
We offer four Additional Learning subjects for students, but to ensure a broad and balanced curriculum that supports future aspirations, students will be expected to take:
- History, Geography or both
- French, Spanish or Statistics
- At least one of our many creative or practical subjects
