De-Coding at Bletchley Park
On Friday 22nd November, a group of year 8/9 students had the opportunity to visit the National Museum of Computing, located at Bletchley Park.
The museum has the world's largest collection of functional historic computers and WW2 machines, including, Enigma, Lorenz, the working Turing-Welchman Bombe, the rebuilt Colossus (the world’s first electronic computer), and the WITCH (the world's oldest working digital computer).
During the visit, students carried out a treasure hunt between the different galleries learning about the machines, and communication using binary. They looked at the difference between robotics and AI, coded the snake game on old BBC computers, and even had the opportunity to play some old arcade games from the '80's.
