First STEAM Day of the year
Our KS3 students took part in our first STEAM Day of the academic year today.
Year 7 students took part in a forensics day, to solve a crime; who stole the skeleton from the prep room! They covered topics such as fingerprinting, footwear mark analysis, chromatography, handwriting analysis, DNA and hairs and fibres analysis. At the end of the day they uncovered the thief...none other than Miss Saul!
“It was really great to see the students working in teams to solve different problems using scientific skills” said Dr Nolte, Second in Science.
Year 8 students had a Dragon’s Den style day on the topic of Biomimicry. They worked in teams to think of some problems to solve and then finalised a product idea. They then spent the day researching, finding a name and logo, looking into finances and designing the product. At the end of the day, the students presented their final product to the investors who then chose who they wanted to invest in. There were some really creative ideas from the students and they worked really hard in researching and design to come up with their final product.
Mr Ali said, "Today students demonstrated just how important they are to the future of industry. Their forward thinking and design skills blew me away!"
We schedule a number of STEAM days throughout the year, broadening students' knowledge of the subjects and how they integrate in differing career choices.
