Oxfordshire Book Awards

The Oxfordshire Book awards shortlist has been announced!

The Oxfordshire Book Awards have been running since 2008. They are special because the awards are voted for entirely by children, who nominate their favourite of the books published that year.

The aims of the awards are:

To encourage the participation of children and young people, both in participating schools and in the Oxfordshire community, in reading more widely

  • To promote the enjoyment of reading amongst young people
  • To promote books that will inspire and develop readers for life
  • To encourage lively debate, discussion and critical appreciation of books
  • To generate a link across the county through the medium of books
  • To encourage the use of school and public libraries, as well as bookshops
  • To involve students in decision making

We will be hosting a reading club to read and discuss the shortlisted books ready to cast our votes in March.

While most of the shortlisted books are appropriate for year 7 and up, it is always great to welcome some of the more mature students in the school and hear their thoughts on the books and give them the chance as Oxfordshire students to cast their vote.

You are never too old for a good story.

The reading club will be open to all year groups and will meet weekly in the library on Thursday lunch times.

The first official club meeting will be Thursday 15th December.

To find out more information about the shortlisted books and how to get involved, speak to Ms Sullivan in the Library.
